What our scans are and what they are not!
We think you should know exactly what you're booking, so here it is in plain language. Sneak Peek Ultrasounds is a keepsake studio. We're here for the lovely part of pregnancy - seeing your baby's face, finding out whether you're having a boy or a girl, having your mum or your other children in the room to watch. That is genuinely what we're for, and we love it. What we're not is a medical service. That distinction matters enough that we'd rather over-explain it than leave you guessing. What you'll get

It isn't a diagnostic or screening ultrasound. We don't measure your baby, check growth, assess the placenta, or look for abnormalities. No clinical report is produced. Nothing is written up and sent to your GP or midwife as a medical record of your baby's health. It doesn't replace any part of your pregnancy care. Please keep every appointment and every scan your GP, midwife or obstetrician recommends, including your dating scan and your 20-week morphology scan. It isn't the place to bring a worry. If something is concerning you - bleeding, pain, reduced movements, or simply a feeling that something isn't right - please contact your maternity provider or your nearest maternity assessment unit. Not us. We would much rather cancel your booking than have you sitting in our waiting room when you should be somewhere else. Who performs your scan
Your scan may be performed by a trained non-medical ultrasound technician, or by a team member who also holds registration as a nurse or midwife. Which of those it is on the day makes no difference to what happens in the room. Nobody on our team provides clinical advice, interpretation or diagnosis during a keepsake scan, whatever their qualifications. That isn't the service, and it wouldn't be fair or safe to you to pretend otherwise. You're very welcome to ask who is scanning you and what their background is - we'll always tell you. If we see something unexpected
We're not looking for problems, and this isn't the setting to interpret one. But if the person scanning you sees something they think should be looked at, they won't guess, speculate or try to explain it to you. They will tell you clearly that it should be reviewed, write down what they saw, and ask you to contact your GP or midwife that same day - or to go straight to your nearest maternity or emergency service if it appears urgent. With your permission, we'll contact your GP ourselves so the follow-up is arranged properly. And just as importantly
A scan where nothing is said is not an all-clear. If we don't raise anything, that doesn't mean your baby has been checked and found to be well - it means we weren't looking, because looking isn't what this is. Only your treating provider, and a proper diagnostic ultrasound, can give you that. Please don't let a lovely half-hour with us stand in for a scan you're due. About ultrasound safety
Ultrasound has a long safety record, and there are no confirmed reports of harm from elective scans performed the way we perform them. Even so, we don't treat it casually. Our team is trained in the safe operation of our equipment, we use the lowest practicable settings and the shortest scanning time needed to get your images, and we'll shorten, postpone or decline a scan if we think that's the right call.
